Originally from Long Island, NY, Ian Poulis began his ballet training at the Huntington School of Ballet under former Joffrey Ballet dancer, Jan Hanniford Goetz. From there he went on to study with former National Greek Opera and Ballet Principal Dancer Valia Seiskaya at the Seiskaya Ballet Academy. After his time with Seiskaya, he was accepted into the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC under the direction of Oleg and Yelena Vingradov. He studied under Vladimir Djouloukhadze, Anatoli Kucheruk, Adrienne Dellas, Alla Sizova, Ludmila Morkovina and Nikolai Morozov. His professional career took him around the world dancing soloist and principal roles in works by Balanchine, Petipa, Bournonville, Robbins, Andersen, Whitener, Caniparoli, Aliev, Angelov, McKayle and several others with Ballet Internationale-Indianapolis, Ballet Met, Ballet Arizona, Louisville Ballet and the Kansas City Ballet. Ian has been teaching for over 14 years in ballet, pointe, men’s technique, variations, character, contemporary and partnering in the United States and South America. His talents have also allowed him to get up close and personal with the public with his various outreach invitations around the country and has been key figure in student matinee performances with each company he performed for.
Ian is happy to be back home in Ballet Arizona and to join the School of Ballet Arizona teaching staff once again.
