Nancy Happel has worked with numerous dance companies in New York, Canada and Phoenix, including ZviDance and Anna Sokolow’s Players Project. Her choreography and dance on film works have been presented in Phoenix, New York and Canada.
A Jacob Javits Fellow, Ms. Happel earned her MFA from Arizona State University with a focus on technology in performance and curriculum development. As a young dancer, Ms. Happel studied at the studios of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Merce Cunningham and Alvin Ailey. She has had the good fortune of studying with an array of master teachers including Angie Wolf, Zvi Gotheiner, Annabelle Gamson, Finis Jhung, Marcus Schulkind, Gabriela Darvash and Peggy Baker. Ms. Happel’s broad exposure in ballet and modern informs both her teaching and choreography.
Ms. Happel’s teaching appointments have included Arizona State University, University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Paradise Valley Community College. Ms. Happel is currently teaching in the Dance Program at Arizona School for the Arts. Ms. Happel is also a Licensed Massage Therapist practicing in Tempe and Phoenix.
