Musical Theater Workshop June 1 – June 12, 2015!

The School of Ballet Arizona is excited to announce our first Musical Theater workshop, taught by faculty member Amanda Paige.

Amanda Paige started her career as a professional dancer in NYC at age 16. She has performed in many shows, all over the country, including Beauty and the Beast, Babes in Arms with Donna McKechnie and Sunset Blvd with Petula Clark.  Credits include Broadway, National Tours, Featured Films and Cast Recordings. She has had the pleasure of working for some of the industries best, including Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, SYTYCD’s  Adam Shankman, and Tony Award winner Rob Ashford.  Since moving to Arizona three years ago, Amanda has become a three-time AriZoni winner for her musical theatre choreography, and currently teaches and choreographs all over Arizona.

The workshop is for students 12-16 years old and will meet June 1 to June 12, weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The cost is $275.  Click here for registration form.  Please mail, email or fax this to the School at 2835 E. Washington St Phoenix, AZ 85034, or 602.381.0189.

This workshop will focus on three aspects of Musical Theatre:

  • Singing: Learn how to properly warm up vocally
  • Dancing: The style of musical theatre dance and how to build stamina while singing at the same time
  • Acting: How to bring character into your performance.  Course also includes an audition prep class
  • How to slate
  • How to properly prepare your music
  • The do’s and don’ts of auditioning

New Programs for Adaptive Dance Classes

Ballet Arizona and The School of Ballet Arizona are proud to announce a Dance for Parkinson’s drop in class offered weekly and an Adaptive Dance program for children with Down syndrome.

Dance for Parkinson’s:
Taught by Debbie Braganza in collaboration with the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.

Offered Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (except on major holidays)
Cost is $5 per class

The focus of this class is to develop flexibility and instill confidence.  Dance is a stimulating activity that connects the mind and body.

Adaptive Dance for children with Down syndrome:

Based off the  successful Adaptive Dance program of the Boston Ballet, SBAZ faculty member Kay Murray-Price and Physical Therapist, Tammy Groenwald, have developed a class for ages 8 to 15.  There will be a limit of 10 students per class, on a first come, first serve basis.

These classes will focus on teaching rhythm, learning safe stretching, body awareness, building assurance and self-confidence, developing appreciation for types of music, enhancing social skills and having fun!

June 13 to July 18, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
