Announcing New Classes!

Thursdays from 7-8:30pm, a Horton Technique class will be taught by Kleiton Sistélos!
Horton Technique was developed by Lester Horton an American dancer, choreographer, and teacher.  Horton developed his own approach to dance that incorporated diverse elements including Native American Folk Dance, Japanese arm gestures, Javanese and Balinese isolations for the upper body, particularly the eyes, head and hands. Horton also included Afro-Caribbean elements, like hip circles. Horton’s dance technique, which is now commonly known as Horton Technique, has no style, per se. The technique emphasizes a whole body, anatomical approach to dance that includes flexibility, strength, coordination and body and spatial awareness to enable unrestricted, dramatic freedom of expression.

American Tribal Style®  belly dance is a modern style of dance created by FatChanceBellyDance(FCBD®) director, Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman.  ATS® is a defined set of movements rooted in the traditional dances of North Africa, Central Asia and India.  ATS® is known for its strong posture, defined isolations, subtle cues, group formations and improvisational style.  ATS® is danced across the world and provides and elegant system for group improvisational belly dance.  In this class you will learn the basic moves of ATS®, the original tribal style belly dance.

In Beginner ATS® class, learn to belly dance by drilling the basics in fun combinations. Using both slow movements and fast steps we’ll get you dancing in your first class!  Each class will include warm up and stretch, posture, one slow move, one fast move, body awareness, and plenty of drills. You are welcome to drop-in as we have plenty of review built into each class. Beginner ATS® will also introduce you to partner and group dancing.
Attendance to the Intermediate and Advanced class is by faculty approval.

Open Class FAQ’s

Do I need to enroll or sign up ahead of time?
Not at all, as this is an open program. Simply come to the class when you’d like and sign in at that time. Your first time taking class will only involve completing a 1-page basic information form.

Is there a dress code?
For Ballet, we do ask that you have ballet slippers on for ballet class. What you wear is simply something comfortable that you can move in.

For ATS® Bellydance, appropriate dress includes full skirt or yoga pants, short top, tank top or leotard (wear something comfortable that conforms to your body so you can see yourself move) and optional hip scarf.  You may take class in bare feet or wearing dance shoes. Hair tied up off the face and neck.

For Zumba, light tread sneakers are recommended.

For Jazz, jazz shoes are recommended but not required.

For Ballroom, something comfortable and that you can move in, that ideally has a leather or worn-out sole. You want to be able to feel the floor versus sticking to the floor. NO flip-flops or clogs, strappy sandals, or open-toed shoes.

For Modern, you may take class bare footed or with ballet/jazz shoes.

Can I pay with credit card?
Yes you may. A $1 fee is charged for paying for single classes with a card.
