Summary/Objective:
The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) supports the Stage Manager in the coordination, organization, and execution of rehearsals, performances, and related production activities. This role assists in maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and safe, efficient production operations.
The ASM is a member of the production’s management team and is expected to model punctuality,
professionalism, and collaboration. Because each production is unique, specific duties may vary by
assignment.
Essential functions:

- Assists the Stage Manager with rehearsals, performances, and events to ensure smooth and efficient production operations.
- Makes time-sensitive decisions within established production protocols to support the safety, quality, and integrity of productions.
- Provides work direction to local union stagehands and non-union over-hire staff at venues or Ballet Arizona facilities, in coordination with the Stage Manager.
- Observes and provides feedback regarding the performance of over-hire staff as requested.
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety of studios, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues (including Marley floors, backstage areas, and dancer amenities).
- Works with the Stage Manager to prepare, maintain, and distribute technical documentation, reports, and daily production materials.
- Serves as Stage Manager for School of Ballet Arizona showcases and designated Community Engagement programs, as assigned.
- Provides clerical and administrative support to the Director of Production and Stage Manager as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities:
- This position may provide day-to-day work direction to IATSE stagehands and non-union over-hire staff during rehearsals and performances. This role does not have authority to hire, fire, discipline, or make compensation decisions for employees
Work environment:
- Cyclical physical and scheduling demands, depending upon the season.
- Evening and weekend work required during the Ballet performance season.
Physical demands:
- Medium physical effort is required – must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
- Must be able to twist, turn, bend, and reach and work overhead
- Must be able to push and pull heavy objects
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to common chemicals
Travel required:
- Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is required.
- Must be willing and able to commute to and from the office and event/performance sites on a regular basis.
- Travel may be required for occasional domestic and international touring engagements.
Required education and experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two to four (2–4) years of stage management experience with a performing arts organization
or venue. - Working knowledge of technical theatre practices and production processes
Preferred education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Technical Theatre or Production.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements:
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
