Summary/Objective:

Reporting to the School Director, this position is multi-faceted with a wide range of responsibilities and requires coordination with all Ballet Arizona (BAZ) internal departments and relevant external organizations. The Upper Division Coordinator and Studio Company Manager must be able to shift from management responsibilities to serving as an instructor and public speaker.

 

Works closely with Artistic Director to maintain high standard of artistic excellence and educational programming consistent with Artistic Director’s vision. Works closely with School Director to build and create programming. With the School Director and staff, works on implementing and maintaining the syllabus and curriculum standards. This role requires the ability to motivate students, a positive and collaborative nature and the ability to adapt to the style of Ballet Arizona. This role also requires the ability to lead under pressure, maintain and improve current School programs, rehearse classical repertoire, choreograph student pieces and organize performances for the School.

  • With the School and Artistic Director maintains, develops, and manages faculty.

  • Teaching a minimum of 24 hours a week in full time training programs during all semesters and summer intensive.

  • Administrative responsibilities and parent/student meetings, curriculum oversight, management meetings, as needed.

  • Advise and meet with school faculty from all divisions and administrative staff for consultation of program management and development. Develop curriculum and plan class schedules in coordination with artistic and technical standards as set forth by Artistic Director and School Director.

  • Work with Artistic Director, School Director, and other division heads to ensure consistent and excellent training.

  • Work with Lower Division Coordinator on transition of students between Lower and Upper Division.

  • Artistically directs student rehearsals and performances, including those for Community Engagement.

  • Assist with audition planning and attends school auditions. Review and assess video auditions for school and Studio Company. Selects and recruits students for School.

  • Plan repertoire for Studio Company Showcase with Artistic Director.

  • Organize and oversee Studio Company Showcase.

  • Set, stage, choreograph, and rehearse repertoire works on Upper School and Studio Company for School performances.

  • Supervise Archway Veritas Performances.

  • Complete and review student evaluations each semester.

  • Provide professional guidance and assistance for students for the next step in their career.

  • Work with staff in other areas, as appropriate to meet departmental strategic goals.

  • Provide support for special events and performances as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Competencies:

 

  • In depth knowledge and experience in classical ballet, classical ballet repertoire and classroom management for success.

  • Must demonstrate a high-degree of integrity, dependability, accountability, and global fluency.

  • A passionate, approachable, team-oriented individual who is collaborative, diplomatic and highly self-motivated is preferred.

  • Ability to create an environment of both discipline and encouragement for students, faculty, staff and parents.

  • Animated personality with the ability to motivate students and peers.

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must maintain high customer service standards for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Exceptional written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, Board of Directors, staff, parents, and students.

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Supervisory responsibilities:

 

  • This position does not have any direct reports. However, this role provides leadership to general faculty.

Work Environment: 

 

  • Work is conducted primarily in a dance studio setting. Event support at the main office location and at external event sites is required.

  • Schedule will vary with class schedules each term; additional hours as required

  • Some weekends, nights, or on-call work are required.

Physical demands: 

 

  • Excellent mobility required. Must have the ability to demonstrate in classes and rehearsals as well as perform general office functions. Excellent writing and verbal skills.

  • Physical requirements include standing, walking, and demonstrating dance steps for long periods of time and light computer usage.

  • Significant physical effort is required – must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Travel required: 

 

  • Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is occasionally required.

  • Must be willing and able to commute to and from the office on a regular basis.

Required education and experience: 

 

  • Experience teaching in a ballet school and/or supervising other instructors in a ballet program

  •  Experience as a professional company dancer.
