About the Role:

Ballet Arizona seeks a Technical Director & Building Maintenance Engineer to lead scenic design execution and maintain our facilities. This role supports six mainstage productions, four school performances, and an outdoor park series each season. You’ll manage technical crews, oversee scenic construction, and ensure a safe, efficient work environment.

Responsibilities:

 

  • · Execute and supervise scenic construction, load-in/load-out, and technical installations.

  • Prepare construction drawings, ground plans, and cost estimates.

  • Manage stage crews (union and non-union) and enforce safety standards.

  • Maintain production equipment, tools, and scenery inventory.

  • Perform building maintenance and coordinate contractors for major repairs.

  • Support events at Ballet Arizona facilities.

Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or Production preferred.

  • 2–4 years of experience with a major arts organization.

  • Advanced knowledge of theatrical lighting, scenic construction, rigging, welding, carpentry, and basic electrical/plumbing.

  • Strong project management and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work evenings/weekends during performance season.

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to drive trucks up to 26’.

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Vectorworks/CAD proficiency.

  • Spanish language skills.

  • Experience managing professional stage crews and union houses.
