Kaelyn Yocom was born in Carmel, California, and began her ballet training at age seven with local teachers. At age ten, she began studying at The Studio School of Classical Ballet upon invitation from Diane Cypher and Robert Kelley, and soon afterward joined Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre. During the summers, she attended intensives at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Pacific Northwest Ballet School on scholarship. Kaelyn joined Utah Regional Ballet in 2008 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2009, and performed Alan Hineline’s Resolute for the opening ceremonies of Regional Dance America Pacific held in Utah. With Utah Regional Ballet, she performed various principal roles in many full-length ballets, including George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht, Jacqueline Colledge’s Romeo and Juliet, Peter Pan, The Legend of Timpanogos, The Nutcracker, Coppélia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Swan Lake, as well as various contemporary works.
Since joining Ballet Arizona in 2014, Kaelyn has been featured in Ib Andersen’s La Bayadere, Swan Lake, Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She has enjoyed dancing as Princess Florine in the Blue Bird Pas de Deux from The Sleeping Beauty, Justin Peck’s In Creases, and the role of Blue Girl in Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs. She has been featured in George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht, Symphony in Three Movements, Rubies, Western Symphony, and Square Dance. Kaelyn has also performed in the U.S. premiere of Bournonville’s Napoli, and has enjoyed dancing as Effie in Bournonville’s La Sylphide, as well as the Pas de Trois in Balanchine’s Emeralds.
