Kara Montalvo is Salt River Project’s Director of Environmental Services. In this position, Kara leads a talented and knowledgeable team of environmental professionals who develop and implement environmental policies, programs, strategies, and systems for regulated SRP power and water facilities. Kara also represents SRP’s interests in environmental rulemaking and policy actions at the local, state, and federal levels.
Kara was raised in central Ohio and holds a B.S. degree in Natural Resources from The Ohio State University. After several early career positions with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Kara returned to school to obtain an M.S. degree in Technical Communications from Colorado State University. She has since focused on a career supporting the electric utility industry. She has wide-ranging experience in the development and permitting of generation and transmission projects from positions with the professional consulting firms CH2M Hill and Burns & McDonnell and arrived at SRP after her work as Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health for Arizona’s Generation & Transmission Cooperatives. Kara has held leadership positions in a number of professional organizations, including Western Energy Supply & Transmission Associates, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, and the Electric Power Research Institute.
Kara and her husband Dave support many non-profit organizations within the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. She is currently Vice President of the Board of Directors for Liberty Wildlife, a Phoenix-area non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education organization, and recently completed seven years as a Board member for The Phoenix Theatre Company, the largest producing regional theatre company in central Arizona.
Kara has a passion for travel and is working on improving her photography skills. She and Dave share four granddaughters who keep them very busy! Kara looks forward to introducing them to Ballet Arizona.
