Ballet Arizona is out to prove that ballet isn’t just for ballerinas.
The nonprofit shares the art form with Arizonans of all backgrounds, including those with Parkinson’s disease. Its Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program helps those with the incurable disease find community and avenues to express themselves.
Not only does dance improve strength and flexibility, it helps participants find community rather than isolation and “transmit joy,” according to the website.
Ballet Arizona previously received a grant from The Arizona Republic’s Season for Sharing campaign grant to assist with expenses for the Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program. The campaign has raised and given away more than $74 million to Arizona nonprofits since 1993.
