Sensory Adapted Nutcracker
Wednesday, December 17 at 1PM
Duration: 1-hour performance
This abbreviated version of The Nutcracker (Act II) will take place at Symphony Hall (75 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004).
Celebrate the joy and wonder of the season with a Sensory Adapted version of Ib Andersen’s The Nutcracker. Follow Clara’s wintry adventures as she battles mischievous mice and charms the Sugar Plum Fairy. Whether this is your first Nutcracker or your 101st, this heartwarming tradition never fails to enchant and draw smiles from all!
What is a Sensory Adapted Performance?
Sensory Adapted Performances provide the same top quality artistic experience, but adapted to better suit a wider range of audience needs.
Attendees will benefit from:
- Softened recorded music
- Soft light instead of a dark theater
- The option to bring your own headphones and accessible technology
- Designated quiet spaces around the venue
- Freedom to move in/out of the theater space as meets the needs of your party
- Reduced occupancy for a less boisterous experience
- Accessible fidget devices on site to borrow
- Character introductions at the top of the show
- Additional materials to prepare guests for their showtime experience
Guests will still get to enjoy time at our Nutcracker Boutique before and after the performance, as well as have the opportunity to take photographs with the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Prepare | Pre-Show Resources
Before The Performance:
- Step-by-step guide to get acquainted with your experience before the performance!
- Research the venue (Symphony Hall) and identify parking.
- Pack your headphones and accessible technology!
At The Venue:
- Check out a fidget device.
- Take advantage of quiet spaces as needed.

- Take a photo with the Sugar Plum Fairy
- Grab a hot chocolate or snacks from the bar
- Enjoy the performance!
