New Works Initiative

What is the New Works Initiative?

  • Bringing dance to NEW locations like Desert Botanical Garden
  • Providing choreographers opportunities to create NEW ballets
  • Bringing NEW ballets to Arizona audiences for the first time
  • Contributing to the advancement of ballet as an art form
Your contributions to Ballet Arizona’s New Works Initiative are vital for the artistic and financial health of the organization. You have helped us grow new audiences by expanding the repertoire of the company. These ballets have received national recognition from publications such as The New York Times.
Most recently your support of the New Works Initiative funded the creation of brand-new sets and costumes for the World Premiere of Juan Gabriel which delighted audiences this past May. The world premieres of The Four Seasons, Eroica, and Round at Desert Botanical Garden are all the result of the New Works Initiative campaign, and we thank you for allowing us to blend the beauty of ballet with the exquisite backdrop of the Papago Buttes. The critically-acclaimed world premiere of Ib Andersen’s The Firebird drew sellout crowds, and contemporary ballets from choreographers such as Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Alejandro Cerrudo, and Resident Choreographer, Nayon Iovino are all brought to Arizona audiences through the generosity of our forward-thinking donors.
