Tips For Beginning Ballet

Helpful To Know Before You Go

Stretching-
Before most activities and sports, people stretch, same with ballet. It may not be as fun to stretch, as it is to be working on leaps and turns, but it is imperative for dancers to do. This helps your body warm up in preparation and can even increase your flexibility. It helps with prevention of injuries, such as a sprained joint or a pulled muscle. Proper posture helps dancers avoid abnormal wear and tears. In addition, it can reduce how sore you feel after a ballet class as well. Stretching helps people prepare for classes and performances. With having muscles warmed up, you’re putting less energy into the joints, and more in your movements.

Stand Up Straight-

Do you remember someone always telling you to, ”stand up straight”? In ballet, proper posture is one of the important keys. With proper posture it allows you do the ballet moves, without injury. Over time with practice, your posture and technique improve. In addition, to having proper posture, it allows the dancers to look more elegant and confident. It helps improve the balance and body control they need, in practice and on a stage.
-Stand up with your back straight
-Chin up
-Square your hips, unless instructed otherwise
-Don’t look down at your feet
-Relax your shoulders

Embrace Mistakes-

When just starting out, there’s no need to get discouraged, you’re learning something new. Mistakes is all about the learning process, and over time you will improve. It’s from your mistakes where you learn from; you may start by turning the wrong way in a pirouette. Soon you’ll be able to land it in no time. You can also learn from watching other peers in your ballet class and the instructor. Your peers are in this with you too; they are just starting out as well.
