This spring, join Ballet Arizona for a masterful program of four innovative works by Ib Andersen, Nayon Iovino, Alejandro Cerrudo, and Paul Taylor. This year’s selection of contemporary ballets celebrates South America, from Brazil to Argentina, inspired by its music, landscapes, and traditions.

Bag & Screening Policy

Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to showtime!

For the safety and security of all patrons, Phoenix Convention Center & Venues has implemented a screening process for all public shows at Symphony Hall and The Orpheum Theatre.

Clutch bags no larger than 8.5” x 5.5” and clear bags up to 12” x 6” x 12” are permitted. Medical and family bags are allowed.  No other bags are permitted, and all bags are subject to search.

Never Was

Music: George Frederic Handel & Henry Purcell

This excerpt from Cerrudo’s Never Was features a duet set against the iconic aria, “Ombra mai fu.” The operatic music monumentalizes the pair of dancers, amplifying their movements. Audiences will be enveloped with an emotional explosion of unity and divergence through this duet that will surely leave you wanting more.

Piazzolla Caldera

Arizona Premiere
Music: Astor Piazzolla, Jerzy Peterburshsky

Paul Taylor’s Piazzolla Caldera is a sensual display of tango reinterpreted and reimagined with modern dance. Set to the music of Astor Piazzolla, Argentine tango composer and musician, Taylor honors the tradition of tango, preserving its essence of the form in his choreography.

Rio

Choreography by Ib Andersen

Music: Phillip Glass

Set to Philip Glass’s “Days and Nights in Rocinha,” Rio explores the movement and vivacity found in Brazilian culture, featuring vibrant costumes and dynamic choreography. Inspired by samba, this playful ballet echoes the joy of carnival and the country of Brazil.
