Nutcracker Youth Auditions

Audition Date: Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023

Youth roles for Ballet Arizona’s production of The Nutcracker are available to children between the ages of 9-18. Students must be 9 by December 1st or be in The School of Ballet Arizona’s Level 2 to audition. Auditions will be held at Ballet Arizona Studios located at 2835 E. Washington Street Phoenix, AZ 85034 (29th Street and Washington Street)

Before the Audition

Students auditioning for The Nutcracker must fill out the registration form prior to your arrival and turn it in on the day of the audition.

At the Audition

Registration begins one hour prior to scheduled audition time and students should finish their registration 30 minutes prior to their audition time.

Registration fee: $15 for non-SBAZ students, free for SBAZ and ASA students

Audition Time

ALL Boys (ages 9-18, or SBAZ Level 2 and up)

SBAZ Level 2-4/ASA Grade 5 & 6

SBAZ Level 5-6/ASA Grade 7 & 8

SBAZ Level PPP & up/ASA High School

Open audition Girls (ages 9-12)

Open audition Girls (ages 13-18)

All auditioning must attend the audition for their age group and should be available to stay additional time on the day of the auditions.

Attire

Dancers should come dressed in classical ballet attire for the audition:
  • Girls: Tights, leotard, and ballet shoes (no skirts), hair in a bun. No dangling jewelry.
  • Boys: Trim fitted t-shirt or leotard, tights or bicycle shorts, ballet shoes, jazz shoes or socks

Rehearsal + Casting

The Nutcracker will be performed at Symphony Hall with the Phoenix Symphony. Rehearsals for the Youth Cast are broken down by character on Saturdays starting September 16th and run through December 2nd, with the exception of: October 14, November 18 & 25th. Tech rehearsals are Wednesday, December 6, Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8.

Please visit The Nutcracker performance page for a breakdown of performance days and times. The youth cast will alternate between three casts. All casting is at the sole discretion of Ballet Arizona Artistic Staff.

Attendance

Please be aware, as this is a professional production, attendance at all rehearsals is extremely important. Cast members are allowed one excused absence before Saturday, December 2, 2023. If a cast member is not able to participate because of the attendance policy, the Artistic Staff will assign roles to someone else.
