Tyler is a contemporary modern dance artist currently based in Phoenix. Born in San Diego, Tyler began dancing in high school before joining Center Pointe Dance in Ahwatukee to begin formal training in jazz, ballet, and contemporary. After graduating, he was admitted into the dance program at Scottsdale Community College under the direction of Angela Rosenkrans. During his time at SCC, he spent two years on Instinct Dancecorps, their preprofessional dance company, and had the opportunity to work with many choreographers from around the nation, including Kathryn Alter, Andy Noble, Christine Cali, Holly Johnston, and Mike Esperanza. It was at SCC that he first began to seriously focus on choreography. As a student, he garnered several collegiate awards, including gala honors at the 2015 American College Dance Association Northwest Conference for his work Oculus.
After graduating from SCC, Tyler completed his studies at Arizona State University under Carley Conder, Dr. Naomi Jackson, Mary Fitzgerald, Jessica Rajko, and Karen Schupp. He graduated from ASU summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2020.
Professionally, Tyler has worked for several contemporary choreographers, including Grace Gallagher and Diane McNeal Hunt. Currently, he dances with NicoleOlson|MovementChaos. He has guest taught at many studios across the valley, and focuses on both contemporary dance and improvisation techniques. His teaching philosophy centers on developing students’ individual artistic voices.
Tyler has been working at the School of Ballet Arizona in an administrative capacity since 2020 and is the contemporary dance instructor for Upper Division.
