Ballet Arizona is proud to announce the world premiere of Ib Andersen’s Eroica.  Join us as we experience the beauty of the Arizona desert, Ib Andersen’s Ballet Arizona, and Beethoven’s Third Symphony in a production that speaks directly to the soul. Beethoven transcends tradition with his Third Symphony, which ushered in a new era of music and changed perspectives with its technical and emotional complexity.  And world renowned Artistic Director Ib Andersen challenges conventional expectations and reawakens the human spirit in this immersive tribute to the past, present, and future.

Created in response to these divisive times, Andersen devises a contemporary allusion to the philosophical innovations, personal realizations, and political confrontations that Beethoven experienced when he wrote his Third Symphony.  Eroica promises to be one of Andersen’s most important works, pushing the boundaries of ballet and pursuing a deeper understanding of what it is to be human in this day and age.

“I hope that people come out of this experience with a lot of different ideas and feelings.  Eroica is going to be a very visual show, one that leaves you with an uplifting message in the end, with hope and trust in humanity.”

– Ib Andersen, Artistic Director

Internationally acclaimed Lighting Designer Michael Korsch illuminates the powerful energy of the desert surroundings and is known for his visceral approach to sculpting the human body.  Celebrated Costume Designer Fabio Toblini reveals the dancers’ lithe figures with a playful and daring style that is as striking as it is beautiful.

Arrive early and witness the transformative behind-the-scenes magic as Ballet Arizona’s professional company dancers warm up onstage as the sun sets on the desert.  If desired, you may enjoy a meal and cocktails available for purchase before the performance begins.

“Ballet Arizona’s repertory… strikes me as one of the most enterprising companies anywhere.”

– Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times
